“This interaction, combining the tactile and acoustic properties of the cymbals with the erratic motion of the mechanical “bug” devices based on space limitation which occurs changing of direction by colliding and weighing system that creates fluctuation of speed among mechanical bugs, results in a randomized amalgamation of visual and sonic element which is a metaphorical representation of swarms of mechanical creatures traversing and animating a resonant landscape.”

Situated among urban historical area, ‘Resonated Ground’ is a sound installation that reimagines the functionality of conventional instruments (cymbals) and explores their interplay with mechanical “bug” devices (movable objects) through idea of “Randomness” by applying colliding and weighing as a key to disrupt pattern.

Refers to Place and Memory: InvisibleCities by Italo Calvino, “The garden itself is as magical as the invisible cities Polo describes. As he tells Khan, perhaps this garden exists only in the shadow of our lowered eyelids, and we have never stopped: you, from raising dust on the fields of battle; and I, from bargaining sacks of pepper in distant bazaars… Perhaps the terraces of this garden overlook only the lake of our mind.”

The surface of each cymbal is transformed into a resonant ground where mechanical “bugs” can move around independently, generating organic amplification as they interact through piezo pickups. The physical characteristics of the “bugs”—crafted from silicone—shape randomized movement patterns influenced by their materiality, mechanics, and design. This interaction, combining the tactile and acoustic properties of the cymbals with the erratic motion of the mechanical “bug” devices based on space limitation which occurs changing of direction by colliding and weighing system that creates fluctuation of speed among mechanical bugs, results in a randomized amalgamation of visual and sonic element which is a metaphorical representation of swarms of mechanical creatures traversing and animating a resonant landscape. and practicality with materials of faith, representing the invisible implication of the object hood.
